Holly served as Guest Director for Theatre of Western Springs’ season opener, Angel Street (Gaslight), in September 2025.
Staged in proscenium, Holly imagined the classic Victorian thriller with a stripped-down, streamlined set to ensure emphasis is placed on character, psychology, and action. The set was surrounded by a dark void to create a sense of of unease and danger surrounding our heroine, a physical manifestation of the darkness that is oppressing her.
Director’s Note excerpt:
In some ways, Angel Street is remarkably ahead of its time, highlighting the issue of gaslighting and taking psychological and emotional abuse in marriage seriously. In other ways, as a melodrama almost 90 years old, it can feel outdated to modern audiences, particularly some of its language and women characters…For me, exploring that balance between the timeless and the dated is where the magic happens. I hope with this production, we have found a fresh, compelling take that is, at the end of the night, an entertaining piece of theatre. - Holly Robison
